Hydropower covers most of the renewable energy that the world generates, and therefore, plays a significant role in the battle against climate change. By producing electricity without creating pollution, hydropower projects continue to lead towards a better and sustainable future.
Like any other infrastructure project, building a hydroelectric power facility will impact the environment and surrounding communities. Stakeholders are under obligation to maximize benefits from projects while avoiding adverse outcomes.
What comprises good practice in hydroelectric power development is outlined in Hydroelectric Power Sustainability Tools, which are guidelines in line with IFC (International Finance Corporation) performance and World Bank standards.
